Welcome

Since 1891

Wallasey Golf Club has been welcoming golfers to our classic English Links. We have a rich history with Tom Morris Snr of St Andrews, four times Open Champion, laying out the links. An 1893 newspaper comment "..the greens were in excellent condition.." has been repeated continuously ever since.

As an England Golf Championship Venue, the Club has, and continues to, host several prestigious tournaments including qualification for The Open Championship on 4 occasions. In 1930, Bobby Jones famously qualified for The Open Championship held at nearby Hoylake, part of his Grand Slam. A portrait was commissioned, and signed by the great man, that is displayed proudly in our Clubhouse.

The Course

The Diamond in the Dunes

Our traditional classic links course with its undulating fairways and sand dunes is a testing 6,649 yards. Situated on the Wirral Peninsula overlooking Liverpool Bay and the Irish Sea, there are far reaching views of the Welsh Mountains. Originally designed by Tom Morris Snr, it has later been altered by other notable golfing figures Alec Herd, Harold Hilton and James Braid.

Significant investment continues to be made in maintaining and developing the England Top 100 course with 4 new tees opened in 2021 together with an extensive program of bunker re-engineering, and dune reinstatement, enhancing the golfing experience further.

Matt Fitzpatrick

(US Open Champion 2022)

"I have always enjoyed playing golf at Wallasey.

The course is without doubt one of the best courses within the UK. The view from the 4th tee is spectacular with Liverpool Bay immediately to the right. The final 3 holes are very demanding. The 16th is a very tough par 3 especially if played into a reasonably strong wind.

The staff and members (are) very welcoming and I really do hope to find time to play when I am next in the UK"
