After a very close match in the West Cheshire Shield final held at Heswall GC against Royal Liverpool GC, Wallasey Ladies emerged victorious. It was a great performance assisted by their caddies and ably supported by many Wallasey Ladies.
Jill Hopwood (Ladies' B Team Captain) said "It has been a long wait since Wallasey last won this trophy back in 1989. I am so proud of the ladies. The team spirit throughout the season has been second to none, with the final not just being about the seven who represented the club at Heswall but the whole squad, who ultimately helped us win this trophy"
The team has now qualified for the East/West Cheshire final that will be held at Romiley GC on Monday 20th September - opponent and exact timings currently TBC.
UPDATE:
It wasn't to be for the B Team Ladies in the East/West Cheshire Shield final held at Romiley against Alsager Ladies. They were unable to bring the trophy back to Wallasey. However, this shouldn't overshadow the tremendous success they had in winning the West Cheshire Shield trophy, which we will officially receive in October, to be held at Wallasey GC for a year.
The commitment of the team and caddies was second to none with eight of them having to cancel their trip to the Forest of Arden to take part in the East/West Final. This team spirit, I know will be carried forward to next year when we hope to go one step further and win the East/West final at Royal Liverpool GC.
